PESSAC, France (AP) - A hippopotamus killed
the director of a French zoo on Monday after he tried to lead the animal
into a cage.
After attacking 62-year-old Jean Duguin, director of the Pessac zoo in southwestern France, the hippo entered its cage. ``For no apparent reason, the animal charged him and killed him instantly,'' said Jean-Claude Marchais, the zoo's public relations director. Marchais said the zoo director was well known to the 20-year-old hippo, named Comir. Zoo officials say they don't want to keep the animal, and authorities must now decide whether to put it to death. |
