Woman
hospitalized after attack by bees
Sunday,
August 21, 2000
A
swarm of suspected "killer" bees attacked a Twentynine Palms
woman in her back yard and left her hospitalized in serious condition with
more than 100 stings, authorities said.
Mary Vezina, 65, was described as stable Sunday in the intensive-care unit
at Hi-Desert Medical Center, a nursing supervisor said.
Bees taken from a hive beneath a shed in Vezina's back yard were being
tested to see if they were Africanized honeybees.
San Bernardino County sheriff's deputies were dispatched to the woman's
home after receiving a call at 9:49 a.m. Saturday that Vezina was trapped
in her back yard, the department said.
