tramples British tourist to death
Tuesday, April 25, 2000 BANGKOK (Reuters) — A young British woman was trampled and gored to death by a bull elephant at a Thai seaside resort show, police said on Tuesday. Her father and sister were wounded when they tried to rescue her, police said. Tourist Andrea Taylor, 23, was pronounced dead at Bangkok-Pattaya hospital, 90 miles southeast of Bangkok, after the attack at the Nongnuj Resort in Pattaya on Monday. Hospital officials and police did not know the woman's home town. Taylor's father, Geoffrey, and sister, Helen, were hurt when they tried to rescue Andrea after the elephant she was feeding with bananas went berserk and attacked her, police said. "Her father suffered a broken leg, and her sister suffered abdominal injuries and is being treated in intensive care," a hospital spokesman told Reuters. It was not clear why the domesticated animal suddenly attacked the tourists, police said. Great books about elephants: |
