Pit bull's owner jailed for attacks

Wednesday, August 16, 2000

Rouen, France - A French court on Wednesday convicted a man of unleashing his pit bull on four people and sentenced him to six months in jail. Jeremie Acquemin, 20, was convicted of having his dog attack three people who refused to give him change as he was panhandling. He also was convicted of prodding the dog to attack a police officer who tried to question him. The victims were hospitalized with dog bites.

After a series of highly publicized pit bull attacks, France now requires pit bulls to be castrated, registered and periodically checked.
