Bears
maul keeper to death
Thursday 12th April 2001 Two bears have mauled their owner to death at a private zoo in Spain. They turned on Jose Ignacio Aresti as he started to feed them in their cage. Paramedics were called out but could not get to the man because the bears wouldn't let them in. He was eventually pulled out of the cage when a visitor managed to distract the bears' attention at the zoo in Vitoria, northern Spain. Two years ago the bears attacked a woman tourist who got too close to the cage. She had to have a leg amputated.
