Man
injured in B.C. cougar attack
Fri Feb 9 15:47:12 2001 PORT HARDY, B.C. - A Seattle man is recovering in hospital after being mauled by a cougar on northern Vancouver Island Thursday night. John Nostdal, 52, was riding a bike along a quiet road near the town of Port Alice when the cougar jumped onto his back. The cougar ran away when a local resident, driving by in his car, intervened. Nostdal suffered injuries to his head, face, shoulder and forearm. They are not considered life-threatening. Conservation officers are tracking the cougar and intend to kill it.
