Dingos attack tourists at resort where boy mauled to death Sunday 13th May 2001 Wild dogs have attacked two tourists at an Australian resort where a nine-year-old boy was mauled to death. The women sustained minor injuries in the separate dingo attacks on Fraser Island, off Australia's east coast. One of the two dingoes believed responsible for biting the women has been killed by a park ranger. (cont'd)
Authorities are still tracking the other dingo, a spokeswoman for Queensland state Environment Minister Dean Wells said. The attack is one of several in recent weeks on Fraser Island. The mauling of the nine-year-old boy prompted the Queensland government to order a limited cull of the island's dingo population. The traditional Aboriginal owners of Fraser Island oppose the culling, and called last week for dingo fences to keep the animals away from tourists.
