Bull Attacks Three
By The Associated Press Published 7:20 a.m. PST Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001 SALINAS, Calif. (AP) - Two teen-agers being attacked by a pit bull were helped by a good Samaritan who was also bitten in the melee. Nicole Kontos was driving home Monday afternoon when she saw the two 13-year-old girls being attacked on Mendocino Drive and Solano Way. "I just slammed my car into park, put on the (emergency) brake and ran over there," the Hartnell College student said. "When I got out of the car I heard the girls screaming, 'Help me, help me.' "I was hitting and kicking the dog and it just turned and bit me. It jumped on me and just kept biting me." The victims were treated at Natividad Memorial Hospital for numerous bites. Police said the dog's owner has requested the pit bull, named Smokey, be euthanized following a mandatory 10-day quarantine period. The owner, whose name wasn't disclosed, told police Smokey was not licensed and had not received mandated vaccinations.
