Sheep Butts Owner
Off Rooftop
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS January 2, 2001 CAIRO, Egypt (AP) -- A sheep being raised for sacrificial slaughter almost turned the tables on its owner Tuesday when it butted him off the top of a three-story building. Waheeb Hamouda, a retired 60-year-old police constable, was severely injured and admitted to a hospital in the port city of Alexandria, police said. According to police, Hamouda had penned the sheep on the flat roof of his apartment building. He was feeding the unhappy animal when it charged him, pushing him over the edge. Neighbors found Hamouda on the ground, bleeding with broken bones in his arms and legs. They rushed him to hospital. Hamouda had bought the sheep last month and was fattening it for the Muslim feast of sacrifice, or Eid al-Adha, in early March. Eid al-Adha, the most important feast in the Islamic calendar, commemorates Abraham's sacrifice of a lamb instead of his son. Livestock is often kept on roofs or in basements in Egyptian cities before feasts. Copyright 2001 The Associated Press BACK to Animal Attack Files Index Tell a Friend about the Animal Attack Files |
