A pack of stray dogs has killed a woman carrying groceries who was on her way home to care for her five children.

The woman, Olga Kotgyrgina, 37, an employee at a kindergarten in the Russian Far East region of Chukhotka, had been raising her children alone following her husband's death.

The dogs snatched her shopping bags of food and bit her so badly that she died.

Stray dogs, often abandoned by impoverished owners, are a problem in many areas of Russia and the rest of the former Soviet Union.
