Tourist attack bear shot in Slovakia

A bear responsible for a spate of attacks on tourists in Slovakia has been shot dead by national park gamekeepers.

They had been searching for the animal for more than a month in the Low Tatras National Park.

It the most recent incident, it attacked two tourists from the Czech Republic, leaving one in a serious condition in hospital.

One of the wardens who traced the bear told the newspaper Sme: "It wasn't shy of people any more and by the end had taken to going so close to them as to even threaten them while they were roasting food over fires."

It had become used to eating the remnants of tourists' food left in bins on mountain trails and near local hotels, park wardens said.
