Melbourne boy mauled by dog Monday January 28, 2002 A nine-year-old boy was bitten on the head and had his arm broken in a dog attack in Melbourne's west. The boy was taken to the Royal Children's Hospital in a stable condition after the attack by a pit-bull terrier-cross, a Metropolitan Ambulance Service spokesman said. "A chunk of flesh was taken out of the back of his head about the size of a 20-cent piece," the spokesman said. He said the boy also suffered a fractured arm in the attack in Rubeo Avenue, Altona Meadows, about 10.45am (AEDT). Police said the boy was playing on the footpath outside a private home when a large black dog approached and attacked him. Two people passing by came to his aid and stopped the attack. Police said the dog had been captured, identified and taken to an animal shelter, and local officers would speak to its owner. İAAP 2001
